Many people stop by for a shower, a nap, a hot meal, or to get much needed help from a case worker. Over the cold winter months, even one pair of socks or hot meal extra can go a long way. I've compiled a list of Wish Lists from Connecticut shelters. You can use these lists to set up a DIY Drive or just to drop off some needed goods at a shelter in your neck of the woods.
I set up a drive at the Connecticut Law Review where all of our members donated much needed toiletries, socks, and underwear to help needy folks at the South Park Inn. Over about a month, members of the Law Review brought in items which were put in a big box in our conference room. My boyfriend, Aaron, and I brought the items, which overflowed out of the giant box into two separate boxes, to the South Park Inn on Tuesday. The look on the faces of the residents who helped us carry the boxes in is something that I'll never forget. They knew that someone, in fact, all 68 members of the Law Review, cared about them. No matter how much advocacy I do, the feeling of helping someone in need is always a feeling that stays with me.
Here's how you can pitch in!
Click through to each shelter in your area's page to find out exactly what each shelter needs and where to drop off. Then, try setting up a DIY drive at your place of worship, workplace, gym, school or anywhere else, so you can maximize your impact. Just want to drop off a spare item here or there? That's cool too! Each of these shelters does amazing work every single day to help those in need. Help them help others by donating the items they urgently need!

Each of the above pages should have all the information that you need to truly make a difference, even by donating a single toothbrush or bar of soap. As always, leave me a note in the comments if your area isn't represented and I'll help you find something in your neighborhood. Make someone's wish come true!
Hope I made it easy for you!
Happy Holidays, do-gooders!
